NORFOLK-- The Midtown Tunnel will close early Saturday morning for tide gate testing in advance of approaching Hurricane Sandy.
The tunnel will close from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., according to officials with Elizabeth River Crossings.
Drivers should use the Downtown Tunnel as an alternate.
"We will have all necessary equipment in place Friday and we'll be testing the tide gates early Saturday morning," said COO Bruce Wilkerson. "We will continue to evaluate conditions every 4-6 hours and adjust our plans as necessary."
