NORFOLK (AP) -- Public workshops are scheduled this week on a proposed extension of mass transit to Naval Station Norfolk.

Hampton Roads Transit says the first workshop will be held Tuesday at the Holiday Inn, Virginia Beach-Norfolk Hotel and Conference Center in Virginia Beach.

The other workshops are scheduled for Wednesday at the Norview High School cafeteria in Norfolk and Thursday at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

All three workshops will begin at 6 p.m.

The Hampton Roads Planning District Commission has said 80,000 vehicles enter and leave the base daily.

Last week, some people living in West Ghent expressed concern over the project encroaching on their neighborhood. One regional transportation engineer also mentioned that future flooding in the area could pose a problem for the extension.
