NORFOLK -- Gunfire put an end to the quiet Sunday morning on Maltby Avenue.

Someone started shooting at a home in the 1200 block of Maltby as the family inside was getting ready for church. One of the family members was hit.

"It was over so fast, I'm like, 'What in the hell?'" said Peaches Smith, who heard the gunshots.

"I had decided, 'Should I get down on the floor, or should I sit down?'" Smith told 13News Now. "I got down low."

Neighbors heard as many as 15 shots.

"What are they doing?" asked Sharon Johnson. "The neighborhood is getting worse. It's not getting any better. New houses coming in, and the neighborhood is still getting bad. That's ridiculous."

"I used to stay across the street. A bullet came through my front window,” Smith said.

The person hit by the gunfire should be all right.

Norfolk police don't have any information about who was responsible for the shooting.
