NORFOLK -- A construction crew hit a two-inch gas line Thursday afternoon, officials said.

Several homes were evacuated in the 5900 block of Chesapeake Blvd. as a precaution.

Chesapeake Boulevard between Latimer Circle and Essex Circle was blocked while Norfolk Fire Rescue worked to secure the leak.

Virginia Natural Gas also responded to the scene to assess the damage to the line.

No injuries were reported.
