NORFOLK - The former pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Norfolk plead guilty Wednesday to 10 charges of possession of child porn.

35-year-old David William Smith admitted he has a problem with child pornography.

Defense attorney Howard Copeland said his client has been receiving treatment from an EVMS psychologist.

“It's a well known problem addiction to sex and in this case it's pornography. There’s no history or and no evidence or inclining that David Smith has ever had physical contact with any minor,” stressed Copeland.

Judge Charles E. Poston denied Smith’s request to be allowed to see his children while out on bond. He requested Smith’s case be viewed by a probation officer.

He also approved a request by the Commonwealth Attorney to have Smith undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation by their chosen expert.

Smith's sentencing is set for September 24.
