Colonna's Shipyard tug fire
NORFOLK-Crews working on a tug in drydock at a Norfolk shipyard sparked fire early Tuesday, firefighters said.
Firefighters were called to Colonna's Shipyard on E. Indian River around 1:00 a.m. to fight fire on the tugboat Pamlico.
The tug, which is from Morehead City, NC, has been in drydock for four-to-six weeks, said fire department spokesman Capt. Mike Hicks.
The fire started as workers were cutting a hole in the deck, he stated.
It took about an hour for the fire to be brought under control in part because there wasn't a convenient source of water, so firefighters had hook about 1,000 feet of supply line to a hydrant about outside the yard.
No one was hurt.
