NORFOLK - One person escaped fire in their Norfolk home Thursday.

Firefighters were called to a townhouse near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Corprew Avenue around 11:45 a.m.

Unattended cooking materials caused the fire and most of the damage was contained to the first floor, said Battalion Chief Julian Williamson.

The Red Cross is assisting three adults and one child that live in the home.
