NORFOLK - Two people and their dog escaped fire in their East Ocean View home late Sunday.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson says crews were called to the 3800 block of Pleasant Ave. in Norfolk just before midnight. They had the fire knocked down in about 20 minutes, he said.

No one was home in the other duplex residence.

Williamson said the damage is bad enough that no one can stay there for now. The Red Cross is helping the residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
