NORFOLK -- An eagly morning fire burned two houses and caused heat damage in third house on Maryland Ave in the Colonial Place neighborhood of Norfolk.
The fire started in one house, causing extensive damage, and then spread to the second house, causing moderate damage.
The third house only sustained minor heat damage to vinyl siding.
According to officials, while the fire caused extensive damage to the first house, it is not a total loss.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control within two hours, and got all five residents out of the houses.
One firefighter, however, had to be taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
Maryland Ave is closed between Colonial Ave and Newport Ave.
