NORFOLK- A recent spike in stolen cars in the Larchmont and Ghent neighborhoods in Norfolk has families concerned.

According to Norfolk police data, nearly ten cars were reported as stolen in a month’s time.

“It is a very frightening thing when so much is happening all at once,” resident Laura Radford said.

From October 1 - 22, seven cars were stolen in Larchmont.

The thefts took place at these locations: Powatan and Bolling avenues, Argall and Buckingham avenues, Buckingham and Carillo avenues, Rockbridge and Carillo avenues, Magnolia and Carillo avenues and Carillo Ave. and Cornwall Place.

During the same time period, two cars were stolen in Ghent at Manteo St. and Baldwin Ave. and Harrington Ave. near Colley Ave.

Radford said she wants families to be on alert.

“After the car alarm went off at 2:25 a.m., that same night a car was stolen off our block,” Radford said.

Officials say the Norfolk Police Crime Analysis identified a pattern and are working to solve it.

Forensic evidence has been collected from the scenes and is being analyzed in an attempt to identify suspects, officials said.

Most of the vehicles have been recovered and returned to the owners.

Police tell 13News Now that a connection between the incidents in Ghent and Larchmont/Edgewater has not been confirmed.
