NORFOLK- Drivers with E-Z passes who use the Downtown and Midtown tunnels have not been charged tolls since February 27th, that according to an e-mail sent to customers Tuesday afternoon.
In the e-mail, Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) tells customers that the charges have not occurred due to software changes and upgrades. However, none of the transactions have been lost and they will be transmitted over a several day period to "minimize impacts to E-Z pass accounts".
Elizabeth River Tunnels spokesperson Leila Rice tells 13News Now's Nick Ochsner that they started correcting the problem on Monday and hope to clear the backlog of charges by Friday. Rice says they are going to charge accounts in "three day increments".
Here is the e-mail received by a 13News Now employee:
Due to ERT software changes and upgrades, the Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Customer Service Center has been unable to send toll transactions to E-ZPass customers since Feb. 27, 2014. As a result, no transactions for the Elizabeth River Tunnels (Downtown and Midtown tunnels) have been charged to your account since then.
None of the transactions have been missed or lost and will be processed in the near future. We have requested that these transactions be transmitted to us over a several day period to minimize impacts to E-ZPass accounts. We will provide you with another alert once these transactions begin processing. If you have manual replenishment and have used these tunnels frequently, in the last 10 days, please monitor your balance closely to ensure your account remains in good standing.
