NORFOLK-A man had to be cut out of his car after it slammed into a tree in Norfolk Friday morning.
Police say the car went off the road in the 100 block of Azalea Garden Road near the industrial park.
We used the jaws of life and it took 30 minutes to get him freed from the wreckage, said Battalion Chief Capt. Mike Hicks.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was in critical but stable condition.
Police said a witness saw the driver slumped over the steering wheel before the crash, leading them to believe he either had a medical emergency or fell asleep.
Police shut down all traffic between Princess Anne Road and Village Avenue, about a two-block radius, for the investigation.
