NORFOLK-Fire damaged several businesses in a small strip shopping center in Norfolk on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to Gustitos Convenient Store, in the 3500 block of E. Little Creek Road,  shortly before 5:00 p.m. and found smoke and flames coming from the business.

A beauty store and barber shop were also affected and will not be able to operate until Va. Power and the Health Department say they can.

Levelle Boone, who works at Xclusive Hair Designs, said he ran to get help.

“The guy next door came over and said there was a fire, so I, just my first reaction was to run over there. It takes two to talk on the phone, you know what I mean."

Boone was relieved everyone got out safely and they were even able to save their cars parked outside the store.

"We had just enough time for everybody to move their cars. There were five cars out here. We all backed our cars out. Luckily, as soon as we did that, the front glass blew out, so it was kind of it felt like a movie.”

Norfolk Fire Captain Mike Hicks said the fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes and no one was hurt.

The 3500 block of East Little Creek was blocked for several hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
