NORFOLK - Thousands of people were stuck in traffic with no place to go when several vehicles collided at the entrance to the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel in Norfolk.
One of the vehicles in the 5:30 a.m. crash ended up on its side.
Rescue crews from Norfolk and Hampton fire departments went to the scene. Norfolk assisted with a medic unit which transported a single patient to an area hospital, said Capt. Mike Hicks.
There was no information on the extent of injuries.
It took about 90 minutes for the vehicles to be cleared so traffic that had to stop on I-64 West could get moving again. At its height, the backup was more than seven miles, according to the Va. Dept. of Transportation.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Va. State Police.
