NORFOLK -- The day after Hurricane Sandy swept through Hampton Roads, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers went out to clear waterways of debris.

The Harrell, with Captain Jeffrey Gibbs at the helm, was on the southern branch of the Elizabeth River near Great Bridge in Chesapeake.

During the outing, they came across part of a large three that had fallen into the river.

A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircraft was going to assess damage across North Carolina's Outer Banks Tuesday afternoon.
