NORFOLK - Parades kick off the holiday season this weekend, but there are plenty of other things to do.

Hampton Roads Night Out
Friday from 3:00 p.m. until Saturday at 7:00 a.m. on Kaufman Mall at ODU in Norfolk.
The Dwelling Place’s Hampton Roads Night Out is a fun, festive event where teams engage in friendly competition to raise funds and awareness for homeless families. The action comes to an exciting conclusion when everyone pitches campsites for an all-night adventure of music, fellowship, and entertainment.
Localpalooza Music and Arts Festival 2012
The 3rd annual Localpalooza at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Saturday beginning at noon is bigger and better then ever! 10 stages, 7 venues, over 100 bands, DJ’s, and comedians. An entire parking lot of tents, games, and interactive arts.
It’s Thanksgiving week so we are doing a huge food drive for the Virginia Beach Food Bank and accepting all your can food goods at the gate (donate and we will hook you up with prizes!). Our friends with ForKids (www.homesforkids.org) will be raising awareness for their tremendous organization. A portion of the proceeds will benefit them in their efforts.

Junebug in the Garden Cooking Class:
Sunday at 1:30pm , The Learning Garden at New Earth Farm, 1885 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach
This is the incredible cheese from Shady Goat Farm that we have at our Junebug in the Garden Cooking Class.
At the farm stand we often get asked what to do with different vegetables. “How do I cook this? What is this good with? How do you eat that? What it in the gastronomic world is that?”
Join us for our on-farm cooking class where New Earth’s Executive Chef Juni Tennant will demonstrate easy, delicious and healthy recipes, straight from the garden! Participate in a three course meal in a hands-on event where you will assist in preparing a festival or your taste buds, all in the serene setting of our Learning Garden (see photos below.) You will also be provided with recipes for each featured ingredient. All these recipes are prepared and ready to eat within 30 minutes. We will harvest some of the produce then Juni will show you what to do with all of the freshly harvested vegetables.
Juni was born in Spain and spent his formative years in Italy as well as having traveled to many parts of the world. His enjoyment of food was inspired by his Andalusian mother who would teach him recipes she learned from locals in the places they lived. His early appreciation for food was magnified through his many travels to places such as Egypt, Madagascar, Bolivia, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Portugal and France just to mention a few.
