NORFOLK -- The Coast Guard helped four boaters in distress near the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Thursday.

Spokesman Petty Officer First Class Brandyn Hill said Bright Star, a 48-foot trimaran, was about a mile from the bridge, near Willoughby Bay, when the crew called to say they were taking on water.

Coast Guard crews from Portsmouth and Little Creek responded to the area around 6:30 a.m.

The Coast Guard crew transfered two of the boaters to the sailboat while they made repairs and assisted the Bright Star crew in dewatering the vessel.

The UTB crew escorted the sailboat to Willoughby Bay, and the owner is arranging for the vessel to be removed from the water for further repairs next week.

The four weren't hurt.
