NORFOLK-- A Norfolk woman will spend five years behind bars for killing a man in July 2012.
Christel Elizabeth Hain pleaded guilty to the murder of 62-year-old Dale Querino of Norfolk, whom she initially reported as an intruder into her apartment.
Police say Hain reported the shooting around 2:30 p.m. on July 29, 2012 at her home in the 1300 block of Kingston Avenue in Ocean View.
Stephen Shifflett lives nearby. He says he was mowing his lawn when Hain ran over to him. "She told me she needed to use my phone because she just shot a man," said Shifflett.
Shifflett says Hain explained she was home alone when she heard noises in another room, saw an unknown man standing there, and shot him.
The Commonwealth's Attorney says Querino had been shot four times and the murder weapon was found underneath a car parked at the complex.
Prosecutors further said the two knew each other and would often drink together.
Hain was sentenced June 7 on the voluntary manslaughter charge. She was initially charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm.
