NORFOLK-10 people in four Norfolk apartments had to stay elsewhere after fire damaged their homes.

Crews who got to the 500 block of Ashlawn Drive around 11:45 p.m. Thursday saw lots of smoke pouring from a second floor window.

Crews got the fire under control in about 30 minutes, said Battalion Chief Julian Williamson.

He said smoke alarms were present, but they not operating.

The Red Cross said it has provided lodging assistance for three adults. The others were being helped by the apartment complex management.
