NEWPORT NEWS - A four-year-old will be honored Monday for her actions to save her mother who was having a seizure.

Jai’lah Driver called 9-1-1 in September after her mother passed out in their Newport News home. She was taught to call for help before her father was deployed.

She and a maintenance worker who rescued a man trapped in a burning apartment in February 2012 will receive Good Samaritan awards from the Newport News Fire Department.

The “Medal of Valor” will be presented to Master Firefighter-Medic Michael Small, who was off duty and saved the life of his friend last July.  They were boating when Kevin Davis slipped, hit his head and fell into the water.

A Medal of Merit, Firefighter and Employee of the Year awards will also be presented at the 2:00 p.m. ceremony at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center in Newport News.
