UPDATE 10/28: Police received a tip regarding the whereabouts of Crystal Houston Monday evening. 

Houston was arrested around 7 p.m. in the 300 block of Hilltop Drive in Newport News. 

UPDATE 10/28:  Police say the 6-year-old boy's mother, 29-year-old Crystal Lee Houston of the 100 block of Delmar Lane in Newport News, is now wanted for felony child neglect.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Crystal Houston is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News father has been charged with abusing his six-year-old after police found bruising on the child's face.

Martin Houston, 38, of the 100 block of Delmar Lane was arrested and charged with one count of felony child abuse/neglect Thursday.

Officials say personnel at the child's elementary school realized the boy had not been to school in a couple days, became concerned and notified Child Protective Services, who then notified police.

Officials say Houston had struck the child with his hands, causing bruising to his face.  

Houston is in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.

According to officials, the boy and three siblings are staying with a family friend.
