NEWPORT NEWS - Roads look much better across Hampton Roads following Tuesday night's snow and freeze, but there are still patches of ice around.
Early Thursday morning, ice was visible in neighborhoods off of Jefferson Ave. in Newport News. Despite many dry spots, North Ave. had several slick spots that had not melted.
"It's not too bad," said Ashley Spratley of Hampton. "It's a little slippery, you just have to be careful."
Main roads like Mercury Blvd. in Hampton and Jefferson Ave. in Newport News were clear of most snow and ice. Traffic moved along without any trouble.
Black ice will continue to be a concern as the cold temperatures hang around for the next day or two.
VDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Gwaltney, in a live interview on 13News Now at Daybreak, said crews were about overnight applying salt and sand on the interstates to make the drive better.
