NEWPORT NEWS-- Rev. Jesse Jackson will visit Hampton Roads on Friday to speak at a Get-Out-The-Vote-Rally.
The event is being held by the United Steelworkers Local 8888 around 4:30 p.m., at its headquarters at 4306 Huntington Ave.
Jackson, who is president of PUSH and the Rainbow Coalition will be joined Leo Gerard, the Steelworkers International President, Doris Crouse-Mays, the President of the Virginia AFL-CIO
and Representative Bobby Scott.
According to a release, the United Steelworkers Local 8888 has 8,000 members at the Newport News Shipyard.
USW International President Leo Gerard has mobilized the entire union to re-elect President Barack Obama and other labor allies at the national, state and local levels. According to the release, Local 8888 has recruited union members to phone bank, canvass neighborhoods and be poll watchers on Election Day.
