NEWPORT NEWS -- Rep. Bobby Scott will be going back to Washington, DC to represent Virginia's 3rd Congressional District.

Scott easily beat Newport News businessman Dean Longo, but Scott praised his campaign.

“I would like to thank my challenger, Dean Longo, for running a positive issues orientated campaign. I would like to specifically thank him for focusing on felon voting rights and employment opportunities, and the unemployment rate in the third congressional district,: Scott said, adding, "Mr. Longo can be proud of the fact that he focused on positive issues and solutions rather than personal attacks that plague many campaigns.”

Scott says the first thing on the agenda will be to reduce the deficit.

"It'll take over 10 years to get the budget under control," he said. "We're not going to solve this dilemma by talking about reducing the size of government with unspecified cuts."

It will be Scott's 11th term in office. The 3rd District runs from Portsmouth and Norfolk to Richmond.
