NEWPORT NEWS-- The prison farm inmate will face charges after fleeing from a Newport News prison.

A spokesperson for the police department says that 24-year-old Eric Fling is charged with Attempted Carjacking. He was also served with an outstanding warrant for Escape from Custody.

Fling escaped prison early Friday morning just before 6 a.m. He was found the same day around 1:30 p.m. Maintenance workers from Meridian Parkside Apartments spotted him in the area. Fling attempted to get away from the workers by trying to steal a car from a woman. A Police Lieutenant in the area saw what was happening and was able to catch Fling.

He was taken back into custody later that day around 2:30 p.m.
