NEWPORT NEWS -- Authorities in Newport News are searching for a home invasion suspect who posed as a police officer.

Police say the crime occurred on May 27 in the 300 block of Hickory Point Boulevard around 10 p.m.

That's when an unknown male, who claimed to be a police officer, ordered a female victim to come out of her apartment with her hands up.

When the victim, 23, exited the home she saw the man wearing a ski mask and holding a handgun. She immediately ran back into her home, grabbed her 5-year-old son and ran into her sister's room. Both women and the child escaped the residence through a window and ran to a neighbor's house for help.

13News Now spoke with the 23-year-old victim who said she's still terrified by the ordeal.

"We didn't know if they were out there or coming to get us or what; we had to jump out the window," she said. "I don't stay here anymore, I won't stay here."

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, approximately 6'0" with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a black ski mask, black long sleeve shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
