NEWPORT NEWS-It could be sometime next week before the Virgil Grissom Library in Newport News reopens.

A pipe burst Wednesday morning during the freezing weather and flooded the building.

A number of patrons were turned away at the site of yellow tape and the "We Are Closed" sign out front. Fans are set up inside the building to help dry things out.

Grissom, which opened in the Denbigh area in 1977, is the busiest branch in the city's library system, according to one staffer.

City officials say it could be next Tuesday before the building is ready to reopen.
