NEWPORT NEWS -- Police are investigating a shooting that took place shortly after 7:00 p.m. Sunday in the area of 35th Street and Marshall Avenue.

Officers told 13News Now an adult was standing at the intersection when someone shot him in the back and his left foot. When police arrived, he was lying on the ground.

"He was in bad shape," said one witness. "It's a bad neighborhood, but you know shootings and crime is really the regular around here."

Another person said, "It's not about where you at. It's all about you. Good choices, you've got to make good choices. Put the guns down, stop the violence."

Paramedics took the to the hospital. A detective went there to interview him.

Police do not have a motive at this point. They don't know who is responsible for the shooting.
