UPDATE  4/16/14: Hampton police arrested 56-year-old Darrel Keith Nelson of Brogden Lane on a warrant for this case. Nelson has been charged with felony hit and run and reckless driving in relation to the accident.

UPDATE 3/10/14: Newport News Police say the pedestrian is still in the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian has been identified as a 46-year-old homless man. Police are still searching for the driver that hit him.

NEWPORT NEWS -- A man was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Newport News Friday night. 

The accident was reported near 74th Street and Jefferson Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Friday. 

The victim, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries, according to Newport News police. 

The circumstances surrounding the accident are still unclear.
