NEWPORT NEWS --  A Newport News Police officer who was suffering from a "medical emergency' crashed into two vehicles Thursday.

According to spokesman Harold Eley, the officer was on duty and in uniform when she crashed her marked patrol unit.

Eley says the officer was driving through the parking lot of the McDonald's at 417 Denbigh Blvd. when she struck the front left bumper of a Ford Mustang. The driver of the Mustang was a 34-year-old Newport News man who was not injured.

The officer then continued on to Denbigh Blvd., where she struck a Chrysler minivan.  A 29-year-old Newport News woman and her infant daughter were not injured but transported by medics for observation.

Eley says the officer continued across all lanes of Denbigh Blvd., jumped the curb and struck a pole in front of Cash Converters at 14346 Warwick Blvd.

The officer was in and out of consciousness and taken by Medics to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to Eley.

The investigation is ongoing.
