NEWPORT NEWS-No one was hurt when a Newport News school bus went off the road on this rainy morning.

Police say it happened around 8:20 a.m. at Woods Road and Forest Drive near J. Clyde Morris Blvd.

School division spokeswoman Michelle Price told WVEC.com there was one student and the driver on the bus that was heading to Sedgefield Elementary School.

Police spokeswoman Holly McPherson says the bus was turning right from Forrest Drive onto Woods Road when the rear of the bus slid into the ditch onto its side.

In that particular area, the turns are very sharp, she stated.

The student was taken out the emergency exit at the rear of the bus since the side door was on the side of the ditch, McPherson added.

No one was hurt.
