Police say Malik Nigel Lewis of Warwick, New York was shot several times in the 600 block of Arbor Court.
Officers got a call about gunfire shortly after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday. When they got to Arbor Court, they found Lewis with wounds to his face, back, and arm lying in a wood line behind some of the apartments at Christian Village of Eastern Virginia, a community for seniors.
"It's frightened me to death, 'cause I'm a very nervous person, you know. It did. It really frightened me," Ethel Bazemore told 13News.
Bazemore's living room windows look towards the tree line where police found the 18-year-old.
Joy Hobbs also lives near where the shooting happened.
"I don't want to see anyone die, you know? We're all gonna die, but I"m still shocked at how this is gonna affect the neighborhood," said Hobbs.
Paramedics took Lewis to the hospital, where he died. Police said he was in town visiting relatives.
Tenants told police they had seen three to five males in the area and had heard four to six gunshots.
