Three homicides in Newport News in less than a week

NEWPORT NEWS -- Homicide detectives in Newport News are responding to the third fatal shooting in less than a week. 

On Sunday, a man was gunned down in the 600 block of Ridley Circle. Police are now searching for the suspect who has been identified as Jamar Sherald Clarke, 33, of Newport News. 
 
 
Just a day earlier, authorities responded to 22nd Street and Roanoke Avenue after two people were shot there. A 28-year-old man died as a result of his injuries, police said. The woman who was shot is expected to recover. A suspect has been identified in that case. 
 
 
Not far from the scene, in the 1100 block of 22nd Street, a teenager was shot and killed after answering a knock at his front door on June 23. Police have not released a suspect description or motive for the shooting. 
 
 
Newport News police say there have nine shootings in the month of June.
