Newport News crews rescue workers in 2 separate incidents

NEWPORT NEWS --  2 rescues kept the Newport News Fire Department busy Friday afternoon. .

The first call came in around 1230 p.m. and involved a male worker, 55,  who had fallen about fifteen feet from the third story roof of Kiln Creek Elementary School at 1501 Kiln Creek Parkway. .

The man fell from a ladder onto a second story roof and sustained injuries to both legs.
Since the roof had limited access,  the Technical Rescue Team used specialized vertical rescue equipment and techniques to get him down.

The worker was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening. 

The second rescue happened around 2:39 PM at 450 Harbor Road along the city’s industrial waterfront.

The emergency involved a worker on the LTC John U. D. Page, a bulk cargo ship, docked at one of the piers.

The fifty-two year old female  worker fell into an empty fuel tank in the engine room six decks below the main deck. .

The  Technical Rescue Team, a Hazardous Materials Team, and a Marine Incident Response Team participated in the rescue.

Due to the confined space where the worker was, specialized vertical rescue tools and techniques were used to extricate her.

The worker was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life threatening.
