Suffolk man shot during attempted robbery in NN

NEWPORT NEWS: Police are investigating an attempted robbery that ended with the victim being shot  early Sunday morning.

A police department spokesperson confirms the incident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the 700 block of 36th Street.

Two men approached the 25 year old victim and demanded cash as one of the suspects waved a handgun.

When the victim informed them that he didn't have any money, the armed suspect shot him.  A single bullet went through one of his hands and then his leg.

The suspects then fled the area on foot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening. 

Investigators confirm he is from Suffolk and was visiting in the area.

There are very limited details regarding the suspect descriptions, but both are described as being  between 5'11 and 6 feet tall.
