NEWPORT NEWS--- A Newport News man is facing a long list of charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend.

Officers charged 31-year-old  Lorenzo Eugene Baptist with abduction, malicious wounding, felony assault and battery-third offense, felony larceny-third offense, and preventing contact with law enforcement.

According to police, Baptist punched, kicked and cut his 24-year-old girlfriend with a knife over several hours.

Authorities said the victim waited until Baptist fell asleep and then ran from the home and called police.

Officers had responded to the location around 1:30 a.m. Friday in reference to a past domestic assault, but where not able to locate the suspect's girlfriend.  Officers returned around 9 a.m. on Saturday and made contact with the victim.

Police say the woman had bruising on her neck, stab wounds on her arms and a large laceration on her hand.  She was transported to the hospital for treatment.
