NEWPORT NEWS-A man is charged with robbing two Family Dollar stores in Newport News over the weekend.

Police say 45-year-old Michael Aursby robbed the store at 5101 Jefferson Avenue on Sunday afternoon and the one in the 6000 block of Jefferson the day before.

In the Sunday robbery, police say witnesses told them the man implied he had a weapon and demanded money. He left and got into a silver SUV. Police stopped the car in the area of 23rd street and Marshall Avenue and determined Aursby was their man. Two men in the vehicle with him weren't charged because they didn't know he had committed the robbery, said police spokesman Harold Eley.

Aurbsy is charged with two counts each of robbery and use of a firearm.
