NORFOLK-Faster security screening is coming to Norfolk International Airport.
It is among 60 airports cleared for the Transportation Security Administration's expedited screening program. Here's now it works: Pre-approved travelers will pay $85.00 and for five years won't have to take off their shoes, light outerwear and belts, can keeping their laptops in their cases and more.
Once approved, you'll get what's called a Known Traveler Number to use when booking a flight, verify their identity and provide fingerprints at a TSA Pre-Check center. Also, a TSA Pre-Check indicator will be embedded in the barcode of your boarding pass so that when scanned at the checkpoint, you'll be moved to a TSA Pre-Check lane.
Norfolk International Airport spokesman Robert Bowen says the program is expected to debut there on November 1, just in time for the holiday travel season.
So far, expedited screening is operating in 40 airports.
