NEWPORT NEWS -- The Newport News Police Department is continuing its investigation into a 28-year old man who was gunned down in the Denbigh community late Tuesday night.  Authorities told 13News Now Angel Alicea, III was shot at the intersection of Crutchfield Drive and Ruston Drive.  Witnesses said he was shot several times, and that they heard up to a dozen shots fired.

The following night loved ones of Alicea held a very emotional vigil where he was killed.  His grandmother is pleading with the public for any information about her grandson’s murder, “Anybody who knows anything concerning my grandson please, please call the detectives in Newport News and let them know.  They shot  him terribly and left him on the ground to die,  left him to die,  they just left him,"  said the victim’s grandmother, Reverend Linda Nelson.

Melissa Cinnamon was the first witness on the scene; she tended to Alicea’s wounds, “There was nothing out here he was rolling on the ground saying can you help me. I told my dad someone's been shot,  someone's been shot call 911. I was putting pressure on the wounds holding pressure until paramedics got there and then I continued to hold his hand afterwards.”

Cinnamon could have been risking her own life if the killer was still near the scene, “Oh I looked before I ran I didn't see anyone I said either he's going to die or I can try to help and maybe he can live a little bit longer, Cinnamon said.  When asked if she was afraid to help, the brave 19-year old responded, “What  society needs (is) we should be helping people not running away from people and letting them die.”

If you know anything about this case please contact the Newport News Police Department.
