NEWPORT NEWS--Police were investigating a traffic crash involving a pick up and an SUV Thursday night.
According to police spokesperson Lou Thurston, the accident happened around 5:55 pm at Jefferson Avenue and Turnberry Boulevard. According to witnesses, the driver of a southbound Ford Ranger pickup truck drove around traffic that was stopped for the red traffic light and was struck by a Toyota SUV. The SUV was entering the intersection making a left turn from Turnberry to go north on Jefferson. The pickup then flipped onto its side and slid for a short distance.
The driver of the pickup was trapped and had to be removed by Newport News firefighters and medics.
There is no word on charges.
