NEWPORT NEWS-A contractor worker for the Va. Dept. of Transportation is recovering after being stuck by a work truck.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. Monday on I-664 South at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel.

A Ford F-350 pickup truck backed into 46-year-old Melvin L. Camm, who was crouched down behind the pickup when he was struck, said Va. State Police.

The driver of the pickup truck, 25-year-old Benjamin A. Cope, who is from South Carolina, was not charged.

The crew was performing waterproofing on the span. VDOT's website says the work is expected to extend the life of the structures nearly two decades beyond their normal life span.
