NORFOLK -- Doctors say a Hampton boy struck by a train is doing better.
10-year-old Jahmee Harris’s condition has been upgraded from fair to good.
Sunday, as Harris was playing near railroad tracks, he got caught and the train severed his leg.
Harris is still recovering at CHKD although efforts to re-attach his severed limb were unsuccessful.
Jahmee was visiting family in Newport News.
The accident happened in the 400 block of Bellwood near Tyler Avenue just before 2:00 p.m.
Witnesses say Harris and several other children were playing near the tracks when a moving train passed through the area.
Turkessa Banks, the boy's aunt, says Jahmee's nickname is "Juju." He is a student at Hunter B. Andrews PK-8 School in Hampton.
Newport News CSX is investigating the incident.
