NEWPORT NEWS – The Peninsula Fine Arts Center tonight will be the site of a free demonstration of the Argentine tango.
Argentine tango is improvisational, with skilled dancers responding to the music and each other to create a passionate dialogue on the dance floor. It has a strong fan base in Hampton Roads, where Newport News resident Andy Stein hosts free lessons every Tuesday for beginners and every Friday for advanced students.
The demonstration is tonight, July 11, at 6:00 p.m. and will be followed by a night of dance until 9:00 p.m. Novices are welcome to learn and observe.
It's a prelude to a special Argentine tango-themed Art After 5 on Oct. 17, when the Peninsula Fine Arts Center will host renowned Argentine tango dancers Murat and Michelle Erdemsel. Murat Erdemsel, also a fine artist whose paintings are inspired by music, will give a presentation of his work.
The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is located at 101 Museum Drive within Mariners’ Museum Park in Newport News.
