NEWPORT NEWS - Police say an alert resident called for help when he saw someone trying to get into cars early Thursday.
Police say 21-year-old D’Andre Lamar Williams ran when officers arrived on Jolama Drive around 1:45 a.m. but was caught on nearby Evelyn Drive.
Investigators say Williams tampered with vehicle parked around Jolama, Virginia and Michael Irvin drives, but he didn't get anything.
He's charged with eight counts of tampering with auto and possession of burglary tools.
Police remind residents to lock the doors to their cars and not to leave valuables in sight.
