NEWPORT NEWS -- Three people have been charged in connection with smuggling a cell phone into the city jail.
The Sheriff's Office confirms the department received a tip on May 15. An investigation led to the arrests of Samuel Frazier, Anthony Carey and Britany Stewart.
Frazier, a food service contract employee with the jail, has been charged with providing a mobile phone to an inmate and conspiracy.
The inmate, 25-year-old Anthony Carey, was already serving time for forgery. His girlfriend, Britany Stewart has also been charged in connection with smuggling the phone into the jail.
The charges against all three suspects are considered felonies.
Both Frazier and Stewart are being held on bond at the city jail.
