NEWPORT NEWS -- Police have arrested a suspect in two bank robberies.

Gerald Conway Martin, 46, of the 100 block of Nantucket Place in Newport News, was arrested without incident at his home just after midnight Friday morning.

Martin was initially charged with one count of robbery in connection with the June 6th robbery of the Bay Port Credit Union on Warwick Blvd.

Friday afteroon, police obtained an additional warrant charging Martin with robbing the Sun Trust bank on Hiden Blvd. June 3.

Police say descriptions of the suspect and security photos led them to believe the same person was responsible for both robberies.

Police say a tip from the public helped detectives identify and locate Martin.
