7/18 UPDATE: Kemar R. White, 24, and Calvin J. Schofield, 22, were arrested in connection with this incident, according to Hampton police.
Both subjects were charged with several counts including shooting into an occupied dwelling. They are currently being held at the Hampton City Jail.
HAMPTON -- Two men are in custody after police say they fired shots that struck two businesses in the 800 block of LaSalle Avenue, as well as a nearby residence.
Emergency dispatch received a call shortly after 1 p.m. reporting shots fired. When they arrived, they discovered that the two businesses, Adams Pawn Shop and Lift Jesus Higher Ministries, both located in the Queens Plaza Shopping Center, had been struck by apparent gunfire. the home which was also struck was located in the 900 block of Queen Street.
No one was injured at either location.
Witnesses provided descriptions of the suspects, which were quickly distributed to officers in the area. The suspects were spotted and after what was described as an extensive foot pursuit, were apprehended.
Pastor Lamont Moss of Lift Jesus Higher Ministries said luckily no one was inside the church at the time.
"I know from my understanding this area has a history of violence and crime but again, our desire is to come and lift up the community," Pastor Moss said.
His front window was all that was destroyed in the gunfire.
Police were not yet able to provide a motive for the incident, but said the investigation is ongoing.
