HAMPTON -- A burning tractor trailer caused major delays overnight on I-64 Westbound at Mercury Blvd. in Hampton Wednesday morning.
State Police tell 13News that the tractor trailer sideswiped a construction truck on the shoulder of the road while it was traveling westbound around 1 a.m.
The tractor trailer then overturned and ran into the guardrail where the truck burst into flames.
A nearby state trooper and a good samaritin rushed to the scene and pulled the driver to safety.
Police also helped the driver of the construction truck who was injured.
Both men survived the collision, but the construction worker was sent to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Sate Police say the tractor trailer driver was reaching for his water at the time of the accident.
He has been charged with reckless driving.
As of about 4 a.m. police opened up at least two of the westbound lanes of I-64.
Hazmat crews were cleaning up spilled diesel fuel around 6 a.m.
