HAMPTON - A nearly four-hour standoff at a Hampton apartment complex ended peacefully Wednesday night.

Police went to Asbury Place Townhome Apartments at 164 Michigan Drive to arrest 27-year-old Kevin Madison. He was wanted for robbery, maiming and use of a firearm from an August 4 crime on Martha Lee Drive, said Sgt. Jason Price.

When he wouldn't come out, police called in the SWAT team and evacuated the adjacent apartments as a precaution.

Just before midnight, the SWAT team fired a gas canister into the apartment after repeatedly ignoring attempts to contact him, Price added.

Madison came out of the unit and was taken into custody.

In the August 4 robbery, police say Madison pulled a gun on a 32-year-old man walking on Martha Lee Drive around 3:00 a.m.  They say he assaulted the man, took credit cards and left.
