NEWPORT NEWS - When you're out on the road this week, be extra careful because the stormy weather could cause some problems.
On I-64 West in Newport News, crews were cleaning out storm drains as part of VDOT's planned Litter Pickup Operation. Monday, crews were along the Interstate in Newport News and Hampton and were planning cleanup in Chesapeake, Norfolk and Portsmouth by Wednesday.
Va. State Police said standing water was causing problems for drivers in the I-64/Victory Blvd. area of Newport News. No accidents were reported, but people came upon the puddles and put on the brakes.
13News Meteorologist Craig Moeller says a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire 13News viewing area through late Monday. He also said scattered showers and storms were likely today, tomorrow, and Wednesday and could produce heavy rain at times.
A lot of rain in a short time could cause some flooding in particularly low-lying neighborhoods.
For drivers, Va. State Police advise taking extra time for your commute and staying far enough behind the car in front of you to avoid an accident in case that person had to suddenly stop or moves to avoid problems on the road.
